Almizan at 35: Key Highlights on Journalism

On Sunday, January 12, 2025, a grand event was held to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the founding of Almizan newspaper. The celebration took place at the prestigious Mambayya House in Kano and was graced by prominent guests from within and outside Nigeria, as well as delegates from neighboring countries. This underscored the newspaper's significance in disseminating news and promoting education with truth and justice.
The event featured panel discussions and keynote lectures focusing on various aspects of journalism, particularly investigative journalism. This branch of reporting plays a crucial role in uncovering truths and delivering high-quality news to the public.
Malam Ibrahim Musa, the Editor of Almizan, delivered a remarkable speech titled, "Almizan Newspaper: From Inception, Achievements, and Future Prospects." He recounted the newspaper's struggles to uphold truth and protect the interests of the public.
The event's keynote address was delivered by Malam Naziru Mikailu, a former senior editor at BBC Hausa. He lauded Almizan for its outstanding contribution to advancing the Hausa language and promoting truthful reporting. He remarked, "Almizan has become a cornerstone of journalism in Nigeria, especially in the promotion of the Hausa language."
Distinguished guests included:
- Professor Mohammad Israr, Vice Chancellor of Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN).
- Barrister Haruna Magashi, a legal expert and scholar, Professor Dauda Nalado
- Honourable Abdullahi Usman Tumburkai, PDP Chairmanship Candidate for Dandume Local Government.
- Muhammad Danjuma Katsina, Chief Editor of Katsina Times.
Additionally, representatives from Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Bauchi, Yobe, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, attended the event. Delegates from Niger, Cameroon, Chad, and Ghana were also present, emphasizing the international relations that Almizan fosters.
The conference provided participants with the opportunity to discuss the role of journalism in societal development. Speakers urged journalists to adhere to professional ethics and remain committed to truth and justice.
